Now that we are in our early 60s and retired, it’s time to decide if we want to grow old in our current home. Our colonial style home has 3 full levels with lots of steps. We realize that we have more space and steps than we need or want. We also have more grass to cut than we want. Home prices has largely recovered from the 2008 Great Recession, and mortgage interest rates are historically low, so we believe it’s a good time to sell. As we look around our home with an eye toward selling, we know we need to make home improvements that appeal to today’s potential buyers. A fresh coat of paint is one of the cost-effective home improvements we can make. An AARP magazine article says that certain paint colors increase real estate market values. For instance, bathrooms painted powder blue increase market value by $5,400 bucks! Really? A $30 can of paint can return more than $5,000 big ones at the settlement table — wow!
