#Retirement is #Walking Around the #Lake on #Weekdays! #retireyourway

Retirement gives you the freedom to schedule activities during non-peak times. For example, the lake is very popular on the weekends. The narrow walkway is filled with joggers, bicyclists, strollers, dogs, children, and their parents. However, on the weekdays, the walkway is wide open! You can walk with your arms extended and open to the awesome nature surrounding you! After working for decades, your body clock is so tuned to postpone activities until the weekends. Once you retire, it seems like a revelation when you can schedule recreation on the weekdays. You feel like you’re playing hookie! Years ago, I read the book Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus: The Classic Guide to Understanding the Opposite Sex,which said that connecting with nature is an excellent way to reduce stress. Paraphrasing John Gray, “nature absorbs your stress.” One of the most special retirement moments is the moment when you realize you can schedule fun activities on weekdays!

While driving around Newport News, Virginia, we discovered City Center at Oyster Point! It was Memorial Day weekend and the Navy band was performing near a gorgeous lake! We took a nice, relaxing walk around the lake a enjoyed the free concert!

#Retirement is Taking Leisurely #Walk After Dr’s Appt! #retired #retireyourway

Take Leisurely Walk thefiftyplusnetwork health healthy walk leisurely walk take a walk retire retired retirement retireyourway retiree retirees

American employers typically provide 2 weeks of vacation and 1 week of sick leave in benefits packages. If you have a doctor’s appointment, you need to use leave to go, which means at least a few hours away from the job. I usually made my doctor’s appointments in the morning, so that I could work about 5 hours in the afternoon. Rush hour traffic, waiting for the doctor to see me, ate into my leave, which caused a little stress/tension. The old saying “time is money” was always present. As soon as my appointment was over, I would rush to my car, and head to work. If I had to drive downtown for my appointment, it made for an extra long day. Now, when I have a doctor’s appointment, I can actually enjoy the surrounding area! For instance, I just had a mammogram in a suburban office park. For the first time in my life, I left the appointment and took a leisurely walk around the block. It’s early Autumn so the flowers are still blooming. Office parks usually have very nice landscaping, so I admired all of the lovely combinations of evergreens, coleus and flowers!

During the past few years, doctor’s appointments have made me a little anxious. Not that I am over 50, I must be afraid of what I am going to learn! Taking a leisurely walk after the appointment helps calm my body … The bright yellow Chrysanthemums bring a smile to my face!

Walking is fantastic exercise, and it’s free! It’s good for our cardiovascular system, and builds muscles in our lower bodies. Our primary focus at The Fifty Plus Network is health and wellness. Follow our Healthy Lifestyle board on Pinterest below.

Peaceful Bliss at the Beach over50 50plus thefiftyplusnetwork over50travel 50plustravel traveling traveler beach beachvacation beachvacay

It’s the day after the Memorial Holiday weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia. One would think the beach and beachtown would still be overflowing with vacationers, however it is surprisingly very peaceful … Why? The weather is cloudy with a light rain … a perfect opportunity to enjoy peaceful bliss at the beach! Listen to the waves crash on the shore. Listen to the seagulls chirp. Feel the ocean breeze on your face and in your hair. Look at how far and wide the ocean extends … as far as the eye can see … Stretch out your arms and see if you can match the vastness of the ocean. The ocean is a natural stress reliever. If you are unable to travel to the beach, take a virtual trip to the beach! Watch and listen to the beach video below …

3 #TravelTips for #Over50 #Travelers! #over50travel #travel

When we were young and newly married, we visited Virginia Beach at least once per year, sometimes twice per year! Virginia Beach was and is a magnet beach spot for young folks! Even though we are now over 50, we still enjoy visiting Virginia Beach. We just have to take certain precautions to ensure our “comfort.” We love the Hilton brand, so we usually stay at a Hilton hotel when we travel. When we were in our mid 40s, we stayed at the Hilton Oceanfront when it was a brand new hotel in the center of Virginia Beach! We were excited about being among the first to experience the new Hilton. As we started to wind down after we checked in, we noticed the Sound Stage next to the hotel. For some reason, we weren’t concerned about it until we were ready to go to sleep around 10pm. At that point, we realized we were no longer “spring chickens.” We were irritated that our sleep pattern was being disrupted!

So, our first bit of advice to our “over 50” nation … book a hotel that is not in the center of all the action! Typically, when you make a reservation, you are not thinking about the amount of noise present, or an entertainment venue might be next door. In our opinion, the hotels on the northern part of the beach are quieter.

Our second travel tip for “over 50” travelers has to do with the hotel floor selection. When we visited New York City during the holidays, we stayed at the Hampton Inn Times Square. The price was right, and we love the free breakfast! However, when we checked in, the front desk gave us a room on the 29th floor! At the time, we were tired and not thinking well, so we accepted the room on the 29th floor. To learn what happened in the middle of the night on the 29th floor, click here.

Our third travel tip for “over 50” travelers has to do with our health … stay hydrated! We just learned that one of our uncles was recently in the hospital for 3 days because he was traveling and not drinking water on a regular basis. He developed a kidney infection that affected his blood sugar and blood pressure. He didn’t want to drink alot of water because he didn’t want to stop every hour for a bathroom break.

To summarize our 3 travel tips for over 50 travelers:

  1. Search for accommodations that are away from the center of activity
  2. Request a hotel room on the 7th floor or below
  3. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water

Join us at thefiftyplusnetwork.com as we explore a new retirement community in Williamsburg, Virginia … It’s called Williamsburg New Town! New Town is a brand new community built on 365 acres of bucolic countryside in Williamsburg, Virginia U.S.A. It has homes for singles, families, and retirees, as well as medical facilities, restaurants, and entertainment venues. We ate dinner at the Bonefish Grill seafood restaurant, and then took a walk around the outdoor shopping promenade. Residences are within walking distance of shopping and entertainment venues. The center of the shopping area is a large fountain. To learn more about Williamsburg New Town, click here.

Williamsburg, Virginia is considered the birthplace of America. The first immigrants to America arrived at Jamestown in 1607. The Jamestown Visitor Center takes you back in time to the arrival of the first Europeans and Africans. Williamsburg also has other attractions such as:

#Over50 #Adventures in #LasVegas! #Rihanna #travel #vegas

Dancing with Michael Jackson at Michael Jackson One Theater! over50 thefiftyplusnetwork

Adventures in Vegas … Join us as we travel to Las Vegas to see Rihanna! Yes, believe it or not, a couple of over 50 seniors are going to see a millennial rock the stage! Why? It keeps us YOUNG! To be honest with TheFiftyPlusNetwork, one of us loves Rihanna! Guess which one?! I had never heard of Rihanna until the incident with Chris Brown. That’s when I discovered many of her CDs around the house … At first, I was a little jealous. My feelings of jealousy lasted for years. Every time I heard one of her songs while we were riding in the car, I changed the channel. After awhile, I began to feel a little silly about my jealousy. To rid myself of any feelings of envy and jeolousy, I suggested we take a trip to Las Vegas to see Rihanna in concert! It’s my way of empowering myself and validating my self confidence and self esteem. I had to remind myself that there was no need to feel envious or jealous at all.

The last time we went to Las Vegas was in 2004. We went to see Prince! I felt the same way about Prince that my husband feels about Rihanna … You can fill in the blanks … We are excited about our trip and will keep TheFiftyPlusNetwork updated with posts, pics, and videos! To learn more about Rihanna’s life and career, click here.

We stayed at the Mandalay Bay Resort, the same resort we chose 12 years ago when we went to the Prince concert! The resort is much larger and more grand than ever!

Mandalay Bay has it’s own Convention Center, several restaurants, food court, 2 nightclubs, numerous casinos, shopping, the Michael Jackson One Theatre show, and Shark Aquarium. Mandalay Bay even has it’s own beach! As we were walking downstairs to the beach level, we noticed a beautiful waterfall.

Rihanna has a very distinct style of hair colors, clothing (or lack thereof), and attitude. If you wonder why so many teenagers and young women are walking around with blue hair, green hair, red hair, look to Rihanna. If you wonder why so many teenagers and young women are walking around with their underwear (or lingerie) and high heels, look to Rihanna. When Rihanna made her entrance, she did not enter on the stage, she walked up to a white platform in the middle of the Event Center. It’s difficult to see in the video, but she had clothes on top, and not much on the bottom, just a thin piece of cloth. Hence, the Rihanna style …

After Rihanna’s “Stay” song, she walked into a oblong-shaped cage that was suspended from the ceiling. As the cage began moving toward the stage, Rihanna sang another song and gave all the men in the audience a special treat … Use your imagination …

The only negative about the concert was the loudness of the music. The bass was so loud and thundering that we could feel the pounding in our chests! I was so afraid that I was going to lose my hearing, so I kept covering my ears throughout most of the concert.

All in all, I am very glad we attended the Rihanna concert. It made my husband very happy, and it made for a very exciting weekend! Sometimes, you have to make sacrifices to make your spouse or mate happy. Even though it pains or irritates you, you can find joy in the happiness of your partner.

Dancing with Michael Jackson at Michael Jackson One Theater!

As we walked around the enormous Mandalay Bay Resort, we kept hearing Michael Jackson’s music throughout the resort. We were looking for the new Mandalay Bay hotel called the Delano, which has large suites. As we walked toward Delano, we were delighted to find huge images of Michael Jackson lining the hallway! Since we are big-time Michael Jackson fans, we decided to imitate some of his famous dance moves. There were other Michael Jackson fans doing the same thing! It certainly brought back memories of Michael Jackson’s entertainment career, Motown, groundbreaking videos, and unique music. The Michael Jackson One Theater, which is across from the larger-than-life images, captures the essence of Michael Jackson and his career.

5 New Rules for Early #Retirement! #retire #retireinspired

Honestly, who doesn’t want to retire early?! Very few of us are actually doing what we love everyday. Career and business choices are largely dependent on the local economy, and demand for your services or product. If you do have an opportunity and/or desire to retire early, click here for 5 new rules to prepare for early retirement! For 9 Ways to Build Wealth in Your 50s, click here.

We have discovered that the easiest way to save for retirement is not to earn more money, but to reduce current expenses. Look at every bill you have and ask if there is a way to reduce it. Call the company and ask if there is a discount for seniors. We just purchased a laptop PC from Dell, and they offered a discount for members of AARP! Do you actually watch all of the channels in your cable package? We saved $25 per month by eliminating HBO from our cable package. We saved $200 per year by increasing our car insurance deductible to $1,000. We cancelled Sprint long distance because they charged $6.95 per month for a service charge, plus Federal/State/County/Local taxes/fees on top of the $6.95. So, even if we made no long distance calls, we were charged fees every month! Look through all of your expenses to find ways to decrease them!

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is one of the top retirement destinations is the U.S.A.! We discovered Myrtle Beach a few years ago, and thoroughly enjoy vacationing in this tropical paradise! Actively Plan & Enjoy Your #Retirement! #retire #retireinspired

Don’t let retirement just happen to you. Make it something you plan and anticipate! After decades of working day in and day out, how exciting is it to plan what you want your golden years to look like … Whether you are currently retired or looking forward to retirement, decide what you want your typical day to look like. Define your typical daily scenario (TDS). What time will you wake up? What’s the first thing you’ll do in the morning? What are your current hobbies and how often will you spend time on them? Are there new hobbies you plan to pursue? Have you developed your Bucket List? One of the most important considerations is — does your spouse or mate agree with your TDS? Your spouse may want a little time alone each day. You may need to adjust your TDS to include an outside activity so that your spouse has a little free time. Your TDS depends on your financial situation. If you are financially secure, there is no need to be concerned about earning extra income, however, if you have doubts about your financial security, your TDS will include working. Think about your hobbies … is there a hobby that can be converted to part-time income? You can have fun and earn money at the same time! Your goals will drive your TDS. For instance, is one of your goals to help others? If so, some of your TDS will include volunteering. K-Y Yours and Mine Couples Lubricant, 3 Ounce
